Willard "Bill" F Lochridge VN 1966-67


LtCol Willard "Bill" F. Lochridge was raised in Scarsdale, NY. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in April 1961. Upon graduation from Western Carolina U. in 1965, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant.

While in the Marines Corps, he severed two tours of duty South Vietnam, with 3rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Marine Div.: 1st Tank BN, 1st Marine Div.; and, Combined Action Program (CAP). He also served as Battalion Assistant S-3 Officer, S-5 Civil Affairs Officer, and Southern Sector (DaNang) Reaction Force Commander. Returning to the U.S. in December 1967, he was transferred to the Office of the Secretary of Defense as a Systems Analyst. Shortly thereafter, he became Executive Officer, Guard Company, HQ USMC; and, later became Commanding Officer of H&S Company, HQ USMC. He was discharged from service with the USMC in 1972.

In May 2000, he joined the NY State military service w/ the NY Naval Militia. He spent 51-days at Ground Zero (911) as a first repsonder. Afterwards, he was placed in-charge of forming the Naval Militia's Military Emergency Boat Service (MEBS). He developed specs and launched a number of high speed patrol boats up to 45'. He trained over 250 personnel (USN, USMC, and USCG) to crew them.

His personal military awards include: Silver Star Medal; Legion of Merit w/ Combat "V" for Valor; Bronze Star Medal w/ Combat "V" for Valor; Purple Heart Medal; US Coast Guard Commendation Medal w/ Operational "O" device;and the Combat Action Ribbon. His NY State awards include: Conspicuous Service Medal; and, The Life Saving Medal from The Board of Commissioners of Pilots of the State of NY.

In civilian capacity, he was VP, Federal Computer Systems Div., Motorola Inc.. Prior to that position he was a founding VP for Grid Systems - the very first lap-top computer to be MFG.
